UNIT CODE: ACC304
ADVANCED MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING FOR DECISION MAKING
UNIT DESCRIPTION
This unit is one of the core units in the Bachelor of Business Accounting program. It introduces students to advanced concepts and theories of management accounting and the factors that influence costs in business. It demonstrates how this knowledge enables managers to make effective decisions and how they are communicated in order improve business efficiency. The unit examines different costing models and processes, including cost allocations, evaluations and how to apply business overheads to different cost objects. It also enables students to undertake cost-volume- profit (CVP) analysis including break even and target profit analysis. Finally, the unit explores budget preparation processes and issues, including analysis of variances between actual and budget performance.
The delivery of the unit incorporates a range of teaching and learning strategies including: lectures, problem-based learning tutorials, workshops, class discussions, in-class activities and independent student research and reading. Each week will commence with a tutorial where selected homework questions from the previous week will be discussed and students will work through unseen material to ensure all concepts are understood. This will be followed by a lecture covering the material for that week, which will include time in class for students to participate and complete workshop style activities.
This unit requires a significant commitment outside the formal/regular class hours/contact. Students are required to complete an assignment, test or examination.
