UNIT CODE: ACC305
CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN PRACTICE
UNIT DESCRIPTION
The dynamic and changing external environment in which organisations operate impacts on professional practice in all industry sectors. This unit challenges students to develop an awareness and understanding of contemporary and emerging global issues to familiarise themselves with the external environment in which they will be operating. The 12-week lecture topics have been categorised into three broad themes, with possible topics given as guidance only; Global Risks, Technology and Diversity & Inclusion. Students will contemplate both tangible and intangible aspects of these ‘big picture’ issues and apply critical analysis and work collaboratively to develop an integrated understanding of the nature of these issues and their implications for professional practice. Due to the disparate and knowledge-intensive nature of these topics, specialists in each field will guest lecture to teach in their areas of expertise.
In instances where the Guest Lecturers do not meet the AQF+1 requirement, their sessions will be supervised by a lecturer who does.
